I was looking for a cute, yet sexy costume for the Portland Pirate Festival that happened last weekend, that I blogged about going to. I couldn’t really find anything that wasn’t too over the top slutty, or that looked like actual pirate attire without spending over a hundred dollars. And since my selection was limited, I went with the Vixen Pirate Costume from Sexual Fantasy Boutique - which also carries adult toys.
It’s a red cotton type dress with a black velvet corset embroidered in. I wasn’t too fond of the velvet, but I got passed that, since I knew that’s what came on the costume. However, the petticoat and hat do not come with it, which I think it should since it completes the pirate look. But, of course, you have to buy those separate on the website or go find your own at a discount store, like I did. Finding a hat that works is a little harder, so I just went without one and used a bandanna that I had from my pirate costume from last year. It pays to keep your extra material around, because you’ll never know when you’ll need it.
The sizing of the dress, fit like a charm – but I felt like the sleeves were a little too baggy. Then, I realized that’s how the shirts and dresses fit back in the Victorian days. You also might want to wear leggings or some type of covering over your butt, so that you’re not showing it to the world, because it’s a little short – especially when the petticoat poofs it outwards. Also you'll need to wash this costume by hand and let it hang dry in order to keep it all nice looking and to avoid shrinkage.
Overall this costume is great, and will work for those days that I just want to say ARRR and put on my pirate costume, while prancing around the house – pretending to sword fight my boyfriend, or whenever we have the Pirate Festival and Pirate Pub Crawl here in Portland, OR.
